I was seen for the first time by this office as an emergency appointment. Not only did they schedule me in right away, but they even honored the appointment during a snowstorm. Going to the dentist has always been such a stress for me, but Dr. Shah was so nice and understanding. He made sure I was comfortable and pain free the entire time I was there.

Each staff member was courteous and helpful, from reception, dental assistant and the provider.

Just as you would visit a hospital emergency room if you found yourself suffering from an injury or illness, it is vital that you seek professional dental care if you experience a painful dental emergency. They come in a variety of forms and can be caused by traumatic injury, an undiagnosed health concern, or a dental problem that has gone untreated. Whatever the cause, dental emergencies are all serious issues that need urgent attention and care from experienced professionals. Problems with your teeth and gums will not improve on their own and, in fact, tend to become significantly worse over time, impacting your overall health.

How Can I Reduce My Risk of a Dental Emergency?

Although emergencies are typically unexpected and unpredictable, you can take certain steps to protect yourself from the chances of experiencing a common dental emergency.

  1. Follow a comprehensive oral health care regimen that includes brushing your teeth twice daily and using floss to thoroughly clean the spaces between your teeth.
  2. Replace your toothbrush every two or three months, or sooner if it begins to show signs of wear.
  3. Limit your sugar intake, as sugar causes increased acid in your mouth that weakens tooth enamel and makes it more susceptible to cavities.
  4. Avoid chewing ice or hard foods like hard candy.
  5. Do not use tobacco products.
  6. Drink the proper amount of water so your mouth can produce enough saliva to stay healthy.
  7. Wear a protective mouthguard during sports activities.
  8. Pay attention to any constant or severe pain or any changes in your teeth, gums, or mouth tissue.
  9. Visit your dentist for regular check-ups and cleaning.
  10. See a dentist immediately if you chip, crack, or lose a tooth.
