While it may be impossible to predict every possible situation that could lead to a dental emergency, you can be proactive in preserving your dental health if you engage in risky activities on a regular basis, such as contact sports, mountain biking, or rock climbing. A properly fitted mouthguard can potentially mean the difference between a minor dental injury and severe oral trauma. Find a high-quality mouthguard from a reputable manufacturer and follow the fitting instructions carefully. Ask your dentist for recommendations for mouthguards if you’re unsure.
It’s also good to be proactive with your dental health by practicing good oral hygiene every day and visiting your regular dentist for checkups and teeth cleanings at least twice per year. These preventative care steps can minimize your risk of developing gum disease, cavities, and periodontal conditions that commonly lead to dental emergencies. Ask your dentist for specific hygiene advice if you have unique dental issues.
