Last week I came in for a checkup and cleaning. Very friendly and patient dentist and nice staff! Mrs Olivera Mendez, the hygienist, has done my cleanings (something I’m not always looking forward to with my sensitive teeth)and I’m so happy with her! She is very friendly, gentle and caring!

Emergency Services We Provide

Dental emergencies can take on different forms. Some emergencies are created over time and can be caused by decay that has been undetected until it starts to cause discomfort or even pain. Some emergencies are sudden and can be created by an accident that resulted in a blow to the mouth that could cause teeth damage. Whatever the problem might be, we can provide the solution. Our services include:

  • Toothache Relief- A toothache is often a symptom of a more complex dental issue. This is why over-the-counter treatment options only provide temporary relief. You’ll often notice toothaches when there is a change in pressure or temperature, such as when you are eating and drinking. It is important to get the cause of the toothache treated to provide permanent relief.
  • Gum Pain Relief- Tenderness or pain in your gums can be a warning sign of serious concern in the deeper tissue of the gums. Dr. Aspinwall will be able to properly diagnose the root cause of your pain.
  • Avulsed Tooth Relief- Having a tooth knocked out can be painful. It is important to make an appointment as quickly as possible to provide pain relief and assess the situation. This helps us ensure that there is no further damage to the root, blood vessels, or surrounding tissue of the socket. In some situations, we may be able to reintroduce the natural tooth to the socket for reconnection. Any other damage including breaks, chips, and cracks may not be as severe, but should still be examined as soon as possible.
  • Missing filling or crown- Though it shouldn’t happen, fillings and crowns can become loose and fall out. This is often due to further decay of the tooth that was being protected by either a filling or crown. It is important to have these replaced as quickly as possible to prevent any further decay that might require a more complicated procedure.
  • Root Canal Therapy- This procedure is often necessary for problem teeth that may have already needed repeat filling or crown replacement. This is often done to try and preserve the natural tooth and stop any further damage or decay.
  • Extractions- This service is often necessary for teeth that have experienced extreme damage or decay and can’t be saved through other dental services. Full removal of the problem tooth or teeth can relieve any pain associated with the damaged tooth as well as prevent any risk of infection.
  • Jaw Swelling- Our jaw plays an important role in the overall structure of our mouth. Any swelling could be a warning sign that an infection has spread along the jawbone or within the supporting tissue. Dr. Aspinwall will be able to determine the cause of the infection as well as provide the best treatment options for clearing the infection completely.

Tips for Avoiding Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies can be stressful, and in many instances painful. Luckily there are ways to avoid most dental emergencies. One tip is practicing good oral hygiene at home. Proper brushing and flossing on a regular basis can help prevent decay that will damage your teeth over time. Our next tip is committing to regular six-month cleanings at Coast Dental Grand Bay Plaza. This allows us to keep a track record of your dental health. This record helps us to spot any changes that could require treatment before they turn into serious concerns.
